The expression “vù cumprà” (wanna buy) is used to indicate a street seller (but it fits better for peddlers), typically from North Africa. In Italy, everyone knows this expression and its derogatory value, especially if utilised as a nominalised adjective. The far-right Northern League party has widely adopted the usage of the term, for example: “E’ invasione vù cumprà solo la Lega dice no”. (“That’s an invasion of vù cumprà, only the Northern League says no”). The expression “Vù cumprà” also generated some semantic variations as “vù lava” (wanna wash) to address windshield cleaner at crossroads, “vù sballà” (wanna be stoned) for drug dealers, “vù ciulà” (wanna fuck) for prostitutes and “vù stuprà”(wanna rape) to blame rapists. The derogatory use of the term “vù curà” (wanna be cured) has been taken up in a campaign of ANDI (National Association of Italian Dentists) to label foreigner dental practitioners by defining them as unqualified and unauthorised professionals, as well to frighten Italian patients who travel to Croatia, Slovenia and Hungary to get dental treatments at lower price.

The expression “vù cumprà” actually entails a derogatory meaning, and it’s used to express hierarchy. It is utilized to speak ill against the immigrants and to remind them that they must “stay at their own place”, namely they may be just peddlers. The term has taken on a negative connotation and is used to express contempt towards immigrants even in the election campaigns of xenophobic parties, such as it was used by the Northern League. The expression "vù cumprà" is used frequently as a racial slur, a metonymy to belittle immigrants' work by the identification of all them with a job considered as degrading and unattractive.

Ilmaisu on liitetty erityisesti Pohjois-Afrikasta kotoisin oleviin katukauppiaisiin, ja sitä on alettu käyttää halventavan adjektiivin tavoin. Sitä käytetään, kun osoittaa halveksuntaa siirtolaisia kohtaan ja osoittaa heille heidän “oikea paikkansa” alempiarvoisina kaupustelijoina. Ilmaisu on rasistinen, herjaava kielikuva.

A “vù cumprà” (akarsz venni?) kifejezés főként az Észak-Afrikából érkező utcai árusok jelzője (bár a házalókra jobban illik). Lealacsonyító jelentése van, különösen akkor, ha főnevesített formában használják. A bevándorlók iránti megvetés kifejezésére szolgál, ezzel emlékeztetik őket arra, „maradjanak csak ott, ahova tartoznak”, vagyis, hogy csak házalók lehetnek. Gyakran használják rasszista sértésként.

L'espressione "vù cumprà" viene utilizzata per indicare un venditore di strada (ma si adatta meglio ai venditori ambulanti), in genere proveniente dal Nord Africa. L’espressione è ben nota per il suo valore dispregiativo, soprattutto se utilizzata come aggettivo nominalizzato (cioè in sostituzione del nome di una persona). E’ utilizzata per parlare male degli immigrati e per ricordare loro che devono "stare al proprio posto" nella società, cioè che possono essere solo venditori ambulanti. Usata per esprimere il disprezzo verso gli immigrati, l’espressione è adoperata frequentemente come insulto razzista.

Pojem "VU cumprà" (Boš kupu) se uporablja za označevanje uličnega prodajalca, navadno iz Severne Afrike. Značilna je poniževalna vrednost izraza, zlasti če se uporablja kot nominaliziran pridevnik. Uporablja se za žaljivi govor s priseljenci z namenom, da se jih opozori, naj “ostanejo na svojem mestu”, da so le ulični prodajalci. Pojem se uporablja za izražanje prezira do priseljencev. Pogosto se uporablja kot rasna žaljivka.
